Celtic Cross
Celtic Cross Meaning
The
Celtic cross originated in Ireland. The cross is
characterized by a circle of the horizontal and vertical
members. The circle is a symbol of eternity and the
endlessness of God's love.
The Celtic cross is also known as the Cross of Iona, which
is believed to have been taken from Ireland to the island of
Iona by ST. Columbia. The Celtic cross originated
sometime between the 7th and 9th centuries.

The Celtic crosses were all made of stone and intricately
carved. This ancient cross can still be observed
throughout Ireland and throughout Europe.
